Cowes Week 2017: Sailing for the 3rd year in a row!

Tuesday 8th August 2017

Performance in People (PiP) is fortunate enough to live by the seaside and within a few miles radius of Lendy Cowes Week Regatta which is the UK’s longest running and most successful sporting events since 1826.

The event offers a great mix of competitive sailing and social activities. The 8,500 competitors range from Olympic and world class professionals to weekend sailors. In excess of 100,000 spectators come to watch the sailing, enjoy the parties and live entertainment, and to experience the unique atmosphere.

For the 3rd year in a row, PiP delved deep into the sailing spirit last week, chartering a yacht throughout the week. A selection of clients from various industries jumped on-board to take part in this interactive experience, including: Harley Davidson, Parkdean Resorts, Volvo, Arco, Protyre, Renault and Mitsubishi. This year also provided us with an opportunity to have a ‘PiP Day’ where names of our lucky sailors were pulled out of a hat!

Those who joined us for our sailing adventure may have first thought, what a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a day away from the office, sitting back and relaxing in the sunshine with a beer in one hand and a gin in the other. Attendees soon realised how VERY wrong they were; they had to earn their keep somehow!

The Skipper on-board, Mervin, did a great job of looking after everyone, showing them the ropes (quite literally!) and delegating tasks for maximum participation. Tasks included tying up the fenders, hoisting up the sail, putting in a tack and taking control of the helm. The typical British summer proved it was as unpredictable as ever and threw a huge thunderstorm our way mid-week. This did not stop people from having a fantastic day and getting stuck in, despite having to turn back and have lunch in Port Hamble rather than The Coast in Cowes! Thank God for those life jackets!
